• Project — Dairy House

Use your mouse or arrow keys to navigate

A 125 year-old brick dairy, supporting the first floor, has not only been retained but acutely integrated into both the buildings exterior and interior.

This project is not one you will see everyday. The new first floor is literally perched upon the dairy, the structural steel supporting it extending beyond the building defining an outdoor terrace below. The original facade of the dairy sits in the foreground bringing a unique yet charming character to the buildings architecture.

The dairy’s northern facade, aged beautifully, literally sits in the rear space of the residence in which the dining room, kitchen and casual meals area is located. These spaces celebrate its presence; natural light bounces off its weathered walls whilst it forms an unmistakable backdrop to these spaces that is calming yet strong and lifelike.

A centrally located stair void provides access to all parts of the residence; impressive in how many roles it plays in the overall design of the project.
